This cycle route links the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea, crossing Central Europe from Finland to the east coast of Italy.

EuroVelo 9, the Baltic – Adriatic cycle route, is a wonderful adventure across Europe, offering cyclists an unforgettable journey through rivers, seas and mountains. Covering almost 2,000 kilometers, the route links the coasts of the Baltic and Adriatic Seas, crossing six countries: Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Italy and Croatia.
The journey begins on the Baltic coast, in the town of Gdańsk, renowned for its rich historical heritage and lively maritime atmosphere. Cyclists marvel at the harbors and breathtaking views of the Baltic Sea as they begin their journey along the Polish coast. Crossing green plains and historic towns, Poland’s EuroVelo 9 cycle route offers a relatively flat route, ideal for families. Cyclists can explore remarkable natural sites such as the Lower Vistula Valley Park and Wielkopolski National Park, while enjoying the warm welcome of Polish villages.
The route continues south, crossing the Czech border and offering picturesque views of the Jeseníky mountains and the Morava floodplains. Stops include cultural gems such as Olomouc, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Brno, the capital of South Moravia. The tour continues through the vineyards of the Czech Republic, offering cyclists an unforgettable gastronomic experience and inviting them to relax in the region’s famous spas, before reaching romantic Vienna. This imperial city, with its sumptuous palaces, majestic avenues and verdant parks, evokes the timeless elegance of the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
In Slovenia, EuroVelo 9 winds through vineyards on the Austrian-Slovenian border, before passing through historic towns such as Maribor and Ljubljana. Cyclists can indulge in local culinary delights, from fine wines to renowned pumpkin seed oils, while exploring Slovenia’s varied landscapes. The tour continues briefly into Italy, passing through the port city of Trieste before returning to Slovenia. The Italian route is still under development, although it can be completed by bike.
The route then leads through the picturesque hills of Croatian Istria, where the cycle route winds through olive groves and vineyards, blending harmoniously with picturesque stone villages that bear witness to a rich cultural heritage. As cyclists make their way through this authentic region, they are seduced by the authentic charm of the towns of Buzet and Pazin. Finally, Pula brings this extraordinary cycling odyssey across Europe to a close. This emblematic coastal town, famous for its perfectly preserved Roman amphitheatre, offers cyclists a final stopover steeped in history and beauty.
