EuroVelo 7, Sun Route

EuroVelo 7, also known as the Sun Route, is an adventure that crosses Europe from north to south. Stretching over 8,000 kilometers, this cycle route links the North Cape in Norway to Malta, passing through eleven countries with varied landscapes and rich cultures. From spectacular mountainous regions to warm Mediterranean coasts and lush valleys, EuroVelo 7 offers cyclists an unforgettable experience through the seasons.

EuroVelo 7 begins its incredible journey at the North Cape, perched on the northern coast of the Norwegian island of Magerøya. This is where the adventure begins, with the majestic plateau offering a breathtaking view of the Barents Sea, where visitors can contemplate the midnight sun in all its splendor. From here, the road stretches southwards, first skirting the winding shores of Porsangerflorden, before penetrating inland, skirting Stabbursdalen National Park, until it reaches the border with Finland.

Then it’s on to Sweden, with its well-developed network of cycle paths. From Luleå to Gothenburg, via the picturesque Gulf of Bothnia, the route reveals the diversity of Sweden’s landscapes, from rugged coasts to vast green plains. The Danish section, along the Berlin-Copenhagen route, offers a unique cycling experience, between medieval castles and sandy beaches. From Copenhagen to Gedser, the route winds through flat, accessible countryside, perfect for families in search of adventure.

In Germany, EuroVelo 7 continues its journey through the varied landscapes of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, following the river Havel to the capital, Berlin. The crossing of the Czech Republic reveals all the beauty of Europe’s rivers, between the Danube and the Elbe, with must-see stops such as Cesky Krumlov and Prague. The route then continues along the Elbe, crossing Austria and its magnificent nature reserves. The route offers breathtaking Alpine panoramas, before heading off to Sicily.

Cyclists discover the tasty roads of Italy, where the Sun Route reveals all its splendor, and wander the charming cobbled streets of Italy’s historic towns. Stop off to enjoy generous cuisine in local trattorias, and be seduced by the warm hospitality of the locals. Every turn reveals a new breathtaking panorama, from the rolling vineyards of Tuscany to the sparkling waters of the Amalfi Coast.

And to round off this epic journey, what better way than with a trip to the sunny islands of Malta and Gozo, where sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters invite you to relax after so many kilometers of cycling.
