Welcome to EuroVelo 6, the river cycle route.

This cycle route follows the banks of three major European rivers, the Loire, Rhine and Danube, crossing ten countries from the Atlantic to the Black Sea.

EuroVelo 6 the river cycle route

EuroVelo 6, Atlantic – Black Sea, is one of Europe’s most emblematic cycle paths. Stretching for almost 3,653 kilometers, this cycling route links the Atlantic to the Black Sea, crossing ten countries and following three of Europe’s greatest rivers: the Loire, the Rhine and the Danube. Offering a unique cycling experience, EuroVelo 6 allows cyclists to discover exceptional cultural and natural diversity, passing through historic towns, vineyards, castles and bucolic river landscapes.

EuroVelo 6 crosses France, offering adventurers a unique experience along its 1,300 kilometers of paved roads. Starting in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins on the Atlantic coast, it winds through the historic treasures of the Loire by Bike before joining EuroVelo 6 in Nevers, then crosses Burgundy, the Saône and the Doubs to Basel, where its journey begins in Switzerland.

Switzerland’s Rhine Route reveals romantic landscapes and cultural treasures along its course. From Basel to Stein am Rhein, cyclists are greeted by picturesque medieval towns, Roman ruins and the impressive Rhine Falls, a true natural wonder. The German section of EuroVelo 6 reveals another facet of the journey, with towns steeped in history such as Ulm and Regensburg, offering cyclists a journey through the region’s rich heritage.

Then begins Austria’s Danube Cycle Route, leading cyclists through picturesque landscapes dotted with castles, abbeys and vineyards. Historic sites such as the Benedictine abbey of Stift Melk and the ruins of Dürnstein add a touch of mystery to this enchanting journey. The Slovak part of EuroVelo 6 also offers plenty to discover, with Bratislava and its emblematic monuments testifying to a rich and eventful history. Crossing Hungary reveals unspoilt landscapes along the Danube, offering cyclists moments of tranquillity in the heart of nature.

In Croatia, EuroVelo 6 reveals the charms of the eastern part of the country, with its vineyards, unspoilt wetlands and historic towns such as Osijek and Vukovar. The Romanian section of the Danube also has its surprises in store, with spectacular scenery and warm hospitality all the way to the Black Sea. Finally, in Bulgaria, cyclists can marvel at unspoilt nature, watching birds and exploring hidden treasures along the river.
