Our stays on EuroVelo 19

Welcome to EuroVelo 19, the cycle route from the Meuse to the North Sea.

This route follows the Meuse valley from its source in France through Belgium to its mouth in the Netherlands.

EuroVelo 19, Meuse Cycle Route

EuroVelo 19, commonly known as the Meuse by bike, offers a cycling adventure through three countries on an itinerary of just over 1,000 kilometers. Beginning in Namur, Belgium, and ending in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, this easily accessible cycle route invites cyclists to experience the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the regions it crosses.

Right from the start, on the Langres plateau, the Haute-Marne region reveals its verdant landscapes and picturesque villages. Cyclists will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich architectural heritage of Neufchâteau and follow in the footsteps of Joan of Arc, from her birthplace to Vaucouleurs, witness to a glorious past. Crossing the Meuse valley is a real plunge into history, with the discovery of fortifications steeped in memory at Troyon, Génicourt and La Falouse. History buffs can even extend their journey with a visit to the Verdun battlefield, to understand what was at stake in the First World War. Continuing along the left bank of the river, cyclists can enjoy the peace and quiet of the country roads and try their hand at original experiences such as the rail bike at Forges-sur-Meuse. In Stenay, the European Beer Museum will delight lovers of hops and brewing traditions.

The Belgian section of EuroVelo 19 is also full of fascinating discoveries. Imposing citadels, such as Château de Freyr and Citadelle de Dinant, offer magnificent panoramic views of the meandering Meuse. Namur, the regional capital of Wallonia, seduces with its authentic charm and rich historical heritage, while Liège invites contemplation with its new pedestrian-cycling bridge and captivating museums.

The section in the Netherlands reveals a variety of landscapes, from historic cities like Maastricht and Sittard to charming hamlets nestled between farmland and rolling hills. The final stage of EuroVelo 19 leads to the fortified town of Woudrichem, before crossing the Biesbosch National Park, a haven of peace for flora and fauna. Finally, Hoek van Holland, with its maritime ambience and breathtaking views of the North Sea, marks the final destination of this epic journey, the “Gateway to Rotterdam”.
