This route follows the Rhone River from its source in the Swiss Alps to the Mediterranean Sea, passing through Switzerland and France.

Welcome to EuroVelo 17, the Rhone Cycle Route along the banks of the majestic Rhone River. Spanning some 1,200 kilometers, this cycling route links Switzerland to France, crossing a variety of landscapes, from charming Swiss Alpine villages to lavender fields in Provence, from the wild meadows of the Camargue to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean.

EuroVelo 17 offers a picturesque cycling experience through Switzerland. Beginning at the foot of imposing Alpine mountains, the route winds along the majestic river, offering breathtaking panoramas. Cyclists begin their ascent to the Furka Pass, rewarded by a vertiginous descent along the Rhone glacier. The Goms valley reveals its flowery meadows and resin scents, while the road winds towards Brig, before reaching the imposing peaks of the Dents du Midi. After crossing the vineyards of Lavaux, the cycle route leads to Geneva and the 200-kilometer loop around the famous Lake Geneva.

In France, the adventure continues on the ViaRhôna, where diverse landscapes stretch for 815 kilometers, from the shores of Lake Geneva to the beaches of the Mediterranean. This cycling journey takes in the renowned vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône, the hilltop villages of Provence and rolling lavender fields. Along the way, cyclists discover the region’s thousand-year history, marked by emblematic UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Lyon, Avignon and Arles. On the final stretch, travelers have the opportunity to discover the Camargue, a unique nature reserve home to exceptional flora and fauna, including wild horses and bulls roaming free in their preserved natural habitats. Nestled between sea and ponds, Sète offers authentic Mediterranean charm with its picturesque canals, golden sandy beaches and bustling port. It’s here that travelers can conclude their journey along the Rhone.
