EuroVelo 10, Baltic Sea Cycle Route
Discover EuroVelo 10, the Baltic Sea Cycle Route, a cycling adventure through eight coastal countries. This breathtaking route guides you along the Baltic Sea coastline, offering varied landscapes such as beaches, cliffs, forests, harbors and marinas, as well as thousands of islands. You’ll pass through five enticing capital cities, from glamorous St. Petersburg to Hanseatic towns like Gdansk and Lübeck, brimming with cultural attractions. Between city tours, reconnect with nature by exploring the region’s unspoilt coastlines.
The journey begins in the town of Ystad, on Sweden’s southern coast. Here, you can explore long sandy beaches and the Baltic archipelago, before taking the ferry to the Danish island of Bornholm, a true cyclist’s paradise. The route continues through the lush green meadows, picturesque lakes and tranquil forests of northern Sweden, past coastal villages and the magnificent capital, Stockholm, nicknamed the “Venice of the North”. History buffs will also be delighted by the historical remains scattered along the route, bearing witness to a rich and varied past.
In Finland, EuroVelo 10 crosses the north of the country, along the Gulf of Bothnia to Helsinki, passing through spectacular scenery, including the Kvarken region with its narrow rock formations. Cyclists then cross the world’s largest archipelago near Åland, an autonomous Finnish region, and follow the Gulf of Finland to St. Petersburg, Russia. In Lithuania, the Seaside Cycle Route takes over. It follows the coast for over 100 kilometers, offering magnificent views and the chance to discover historic towns such as Klaipeda.
The journey continues in Poland, where EuroVelo 10 merges with EuroVelo 13, offering adventurers a double discovery of the country. Work is underway to improve the route, with quality surfaces, bike parking and improved signage. In Germany, the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route leads along the beautiful beaches and picturesque seaside resorts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Finally, the Baltic Sea Cycle Route winds its way through Denmark’s charming islands, linking Jutland to the island of Zealand, where you can discover Copenhagen, the cycling capital par excellence. Cyclists will have the opportunity to discover the country’s rich Viking history by exploring fascinating archaeological sites, as well as enjoying the legendary friendliness of the Danes during encounters with local inhabitants. This final leg of the journey also offers the chance to discover Copenhagen’s thriving culinary scene, with its Michelin-starred restaurants and lively food markets.
