Sydkustleden literally means “the southern coastal path” in Swedish. These trails are often separated from road traffic, providing a safe environment for cyclists. From SIMRISHAMN to YSTAD 53km
Between the charming medieval towns of Simrishamn and Ystad, you pass through beautiful landscapes and fields of golden rapeseed. Nature in this part of the Skåne region offers unique flora.
A multitude of discoveries and encounters await you on this day: visit the bustling fishing grounds, the mighty megaliths of Ale, the Sandhammaren nature reserve, breaks in welcoming cafés, local gastronomy in local restaurants.
From YSTAD to TRELLEBORG 47km
No other town in the Nordic countries can present such a complete picture of a place from the past as Ystad. Here you’ll find over 300 half-timbered houses, as well as the country’s oldest and best-preserved convent (founded in 1267) and the Sankt Maria church with its watchtower. Ystad also boasts several interesting museums, including the Art Museum, the Charlotte Beilin Museum and the Ystad Military Museum.
From TRELLEBORG to MALMO 58km
You’re pedaling along a path steeped in history, as witnessed by the many dolmens dotted along your route. In another era, the villages you discover along the way thrived on herring fishing.
North of Malmö, you find Spillepengen, a natural area that stands in stark contrast to the city behind it. Its shallow marine waters are an important place for the many flocks of birds that rest here on their journeys or spend the winter.
In Löddeköpinge, Borgeby Castle and the VikingaTider open-air museum, both just off the road, are worth a visit before you enter the city of Malmo.
- For a few more km 78km
When you arrive in Höllviken, we recommend you head for the Falsterbo peninsula and its white sandy beaches. The peninsula is also one of the best places in the world for birdwatching. The brightly-colored huts are typical of this region.
From MALMO to LANDSKRONA 57km
There are plenty of places to swim on the way to Landskrona. Stop off at Lomma Beach or Långa bryggan in Bjärred, which extends 600 meters into the sea. Here you can enjoy a delicious meal and a swim.
The small village of Barsebäckshamn is popular with boating and freshwater enthusiasts.
From LANDSKRONA to HELSINGBORG 27km
Today’s stage between Landskrona and Helsingborg is a short one of less than 30 kilometers, allowing you to take your time and enjoy a wide range of experiences along the way.
Landskrona offers beautiful architecture and a wide range of cultural sites. In the center of town is the Citadellet, one of the country’s best-preserved 16th-century fortresses. North of the city, discover the Glumslövs backar, an enchanting, rolling plateau formed by glaciers. This area includes the Hilleshögs dalar (valleys) nature reserve, which is well worth a visit.
Passing through Ålabodarna, you soon arrive in Borstahusen, a fishing village founded in the 1770s. At the end of your day, you’ll discover the city of Helsingborg, a blend of nature, history and the hustle and bustle of a modern city.
