This bicycle route takes you to the discovery of the Empordà wine region and its medieval villages. You will ride along the Costa Brava, offering beautiful swimming and sunny moments of relaxation. The Catalan gastronomy colors your plates contributing to make precious moments.

From Girona to Figueres by bike, this trip takes you along the Costa Brava. You will enjoy the most beautiful roads and viewpoints. A bike trip to discover this region offers great gastronomic discoveries, many opportunities to taste the best wines of the generous vineyards, through rich landscapes shaped by men between sea and mountains.On the horizon, the Pyrenees are watching you. They mark the boundaries of the space you will explore during this stay.

The start of the cycling trip is in Girona, the capital of the eponymous region. Before you start pedaling, we invite you to visit this walled city that offers beautiful cultural walks. You enter the old fortress, the Força Vella, near its imposing cathedral. You walk along the river Onyar, a bubble of nature in the heart of the city.

This is not the only city full of history that this cycling trip takes you to visit. You ride to Sant Feliu de Guíxols and its famous monastery and then to Castello d’Empuries with its Jewish quarter and its Gothic church. Pals, Sant Martí de Empúries, Peralada…are some of the charming medieval villages that you will ride through.

This trip with accessible bike routes (about 40km per day) gives you the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava. The Ruta del Tren Petit is the cycling route that accompanies you from the start of your stay to the Mediterranean Sea. The Bay of Roses that you will ride along allows you to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches of the Costa Brava.

The local cuisine and gastronomy are at the heart of this trip. The diversity of the landscape is such that it allows the region to have a great variety of local products, which gives rise to a varied traditional cuisine. We invite you to taste these typical dishes such as Anchovies from l’Escala or Rice from Pals. In the fishing villages like Calella de Palafrugell you can taste fish dishes like Cim i tomba or rice with spider crab.

Leaving the seaside, a few pedal strokes away, you reach the vineyards of the Empordà, one of the oldest wine regions in the world. The villages of Garriguella, Vilamaniscle and Rabos punctuate this itinerary. Figueres (in Catalan) or Figueras (in Castilian) concludes this trip. The beautiful city hosts the largest museum dedicated to Salvador Dalí and the largest fortress in Europe.

Three major festive events take place in Girona every year, offering a unique experience:

– Semana Santa: Easter, from 11 to 21 April.
– Temps de Flors: the flower festival that attracts thousands of visitors, from 9 to 20 May.
– Sea Otter Europe: the world famous cycling event held in the city from 18 to 21 September.

During these periods, hotels are in high demand, which means that prices vary according to demand, and you’ll probably have to pay a supplement to stay in Girona.

Day 1

GERONE (Girona)

Arrival on your own to Girona.

In Girona there is plenty to see and to do. The city is famous for having one of the best preserved Jewish old towns and the Cathedral boasts one of the largest stone vaulted spaces in Gothic architecture. A walk along the city walls is highly recommended, or following the Onyar River, which gives you a nice picturesque view of the colored houses of Onyar River.

Day 2

From GERONE (Girona) to SANT-FELIU-DE-GUIXOLS 45km 280m Niveau Forme

From Girona you follow a cycle path out of the city to the south. The ride takes you directly to the Mediterranean Sea. This section follows the greenway called “El Carrilet”, passing through the towns of Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera and Santa Cristina d’Aro. Throughout the route, the Gavarres massif is always in the background, a mountainous forest area, mainly composed of oak trees, important for cork production.You arrive in San-Feliu-de-Guíxols and can enjoy the relaxing activities of the seaside (swimming, siesta, walk,…).

Day 3

From SANT-FELIU-DE-GUIXOLS to CALELLA DE PALAFRUGELL 30km 271m Niveau Loisir

Today you ride north along the coast combining the coastal road with the sea boulevards, visiting the main port town of Palamós. After a few kilometers, you pass the preserved cove of Platja de Castell, with its Iberian settlement on the left side. It is a nice place to have a picnic and to swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Then you arrive at the picturesque old fishing village of Calella de Palafurgell, one of the gems of the Costa Brava. On the last stretch, you pedal along the greenway called “Ruta del Tren Petit”.

Day 4

From CALELLA DE PALAFRUGELL to TORROELLA DE MONTGRI 29km 240m Niveau Loisir

Head north inland through Palafrugell, with its fish, meat and vegetable market. A good place to learn about the local products of this region. You can also visit the cork museum. After leaving Palafrugell, you reach the medieval village of Pals, one of the best preserved medieval centres. The ride takes you through natural wetlands with extensive rice fields and long sandy beaches. The bike tour ends in Torroella de Montgrí, at the foot of the castle of the Montgri massif.

Day 5

From TORROELLA DE MONTGRI to CASTELLO D’EMPURIES 36km 190m Niveau Facile

The route continues northwards, passing through the Montgrí massif and entering the Alt Empordà region. You enter the long bay of Roses with its long sandy beaches. Next to the pretty medieval village of Sant Martí de Empúries and right in front of the beautiful beach, we recommend you take the time to visit the archaeological village of Empúries with its Greek and Roman ruins, the gateway of classical cultures to the Iberian Peninsula. The route then continues northwards through the protected marshes of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà. The stage ends in the village of Castelló d’Empúries, which has a rich architectural heritage: a Gothic church, a count’s palace, an old market and a Jewish quarter.

Day 6

CASTELLO D'EMPURIES, LOOP OF VINEYARDS 37km 214m Niveau Loisir

This stage offers you fantastic views of the Pyrenees as a backdrop as you pass through centuries-old vineyards. Today, you pass through the most famous vineyards of the Costa Brava: those of Empordà. In addition, you have the opportunity to ride along other vineyards near the towns of Vilajuïga and Pau.

Day 7

From CASTELLO D’EMPURIES to FIGUERAS 43km 440m Niveau Forme

Today’s bike ride starts in Peralada, where we recommend a visit to the castle and the medieval town. From there, you cross the upper part of the wine-growing area, passing through Garriguella, Vilamaniscle and Rabos with the oldest groves. Do not miss a quick visit to the modernist cellar of the Espolla cooperative. From here, the tour takes you on a long descent to your final destination, the city of Figueres. Once in Figueres, you can visit the famous Dalí Theatre-Museum, which remains one of the most visited tourist sites in Spain.

FIGUERAS

Your tour of the beautiful Costa Brava ends after breakfast.

    Booking and payment

    • Departure more than 30 days before your booking: payment of a deposit of 30%, excluding insurance, at the time of booking. If you have taken out travel insurance, it must be paid in full at the time of booking to guarantee its validity.
    • Departure within 30 days of your booking: payment of the total cost of your stay. Or payment of the balance of the holiday if you have already paid a deposit.

    Cancellation of the Contract

    You may cancel the Contract at any time before the start of the Tour, subject to payment of a cancellation fee. Any total or partial cancellation will incur the following costs per participant:
