Cycling between two of Central Europe's most beautiful capitals

Welcome to Central Europe for a cycling adventure between the Czech Republic and Austria, linking two of the most beautiful cities on the old continent: Prague and Vienna. From the Czech capital to the imperial metropolis, you'll cycle to UNESCO World Heritage sites and enjoy the local gastronomy.

Around 300 kilometers long, this cycling tour features a wealth of culture, including several UNESCO sites, and rich local gastronomy. Through the valleys and hills of the Czech and Austrian countryside, you’ll pedal on greenways dedicated to gentle travel, or on quiet country roads. You’ll ride in peace and quiet along rivers like the Elbe or the Svratka. At the end of your journey between Brno and Vienna, you’ll be on the European route of EuroVelo 9.

Nicknamed the City of a Hundred Spires, Prague abounds in a variety of splendid buildings and picturesque quarters. The city is a pleasant invitation to get lost in the labyrinth of cobbled streets, as in Josefov, the Jewish quarter, or Malá Strana. For a bit of height, climb Petřín Hill. And for a touch of romance, stroll across the famous Charles Bridge.

Vienna, where you end your stay, is also magnificent. The Austrian capital is nicknamed both the city of dreams and the city of music. It boasts a remarkable cultural and architectural heritage. Vienna’s historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Throughout your cycling trip between the Czech Republic and Austria, you’ll discover UNESCO-listed sites. For a start, the town of Kutná Horá, with its historic center, the Church of St. Barbara and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Sedlec, is a Bohemian jewel. Then you can visit Litomyšl Castle, one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in the Czech Republic. Then admire the Villa Tugendhat in Brno, less well-known than Prague but still full of charm. Nearby Austria, the towns of Lednice and Valtice, flanked by two rococo castles, are also not to be missed, adding a cultural touch to your cycling adventure in the heart of Europe.

When it comes to gastronomy, this cycling trip will introduce you to many fine specialties and skills. During your stay, stop off in the lively villages of Pardubice, the gingerbread capital, or Polička to sample a local beer. The Czech Republic is Europe’s top beer-drinking country, with 130 liters per capita. Austria ranks second. Beer is a true institution in both countries. Close to the Czech-Austrian border, the Mikulov wine-growing region is the perfect place to sample local wines. Pálava, Neuburger and Sylvaner are the region’s most famous white wines. This cycling tour is also an opportunity to discover traditional Czech cuisine. Generous and nourishing. It’s the perfect way to make up for the hunger pangs that come with cycling! Among the emblematic dishes, don’t miss goulash, roast duck (pečená kachna), potato pancakes (bramboráky), fried cheese (smažený sýr) and trdelník, Prague’s must-try pastry.
