A weekend to discover the beautiful city of Saint-Malo and its emerald coast
Cycling loops from Saint-Malo to Cancale and the coast
Saint-Malo impresses all travelers who arrive there for the first time. The imposing stone city almost looks like an island set between the Rance estuary, the Channel and the port. The latter serves for fishing, trade and pleasure at the same time and provides shelter from winds and storms to a three-masted frigate replica of 1745.
Come and take shelter from the impressive ramparts that protect the city. They are so solid that they resisted the fire bombings of 1944 and a visible part of it dates from the twelfth century.
You will enjoy the atmosphere of Saint Malo, city of art and history, thanks to your lodging in an old house overlooking the sea and the city of Dinard. You will visit the shopping district of Saint-Servan by bike. Its port, located at the Rance estuary which is often tinted with all the colors and reflects the tall Solidor Tower, historical and medieval building of the city. Your journey will take you along the Rance to Saint-Suliac, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Another stroll along the sea will lead you to discover Rotheneuf and the wild Emerald Coast. The latter takes its name from the beautiful hue that colors the Channel.
You ride to Cancale, where you can try the famous horse feet oyster directly on the seaport to the fisherman.
FROM SAINT-MALO, DINARD LOOP 40km 373m
Embark with your bikes for a small cruise by water bus. You will cross the Rance estuary and reach Dinard.
Cycling, you weave between the nineteenth century villas that are the hallmark of the city.
Then along a scalloped coast you will continue a ride in the fresh, iodized air! On the return you will go back to Dinard and take the water bus back.
FROM SAINT-MALO, SAINT SULIAC LOOP 36km 277m
Discover Saint-Suliac, one of the villages listed as “France’s Most Beautiful Villages”. Departing from the Malouin countryside, you reach the banks of the Rance, a beautiful river that draws its strength from the tides. The water is a superb sight when the setting sun reflects off its banks and the stones of the village of Saint-Suliac.
